A full-fledged remake of the well-known RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is most likely not going to happen anytime soon. The project announced in 2021 has been suffering from problematic developments for a long time, which some time ago resulted in change of development team, when the Aspyr studio was replaced by the Saber Interactive development unit. Even this change apparently did not solve the problems. Already in May of this year, there was talk that work on the game was at least suspended and we might never see the final game.
In the new episode of the magazine podcast Giant Bomb this status was confirmed by well-known insider Jeff Grubb. According to his information, he was game development completely stopped and is not currently running in any studio. The end of development may be related to the extensive financial problems of the Embracer Group, which has recently been largely laying off and canceling individual titles in development. According to Grubb, the project can only be saved by the Disney company, which could take the development of the game under its wing as the owner of the rights to the brand.
According to Grubb, however, there is currently no indication that this scenario could become a reality. Interested in a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic neither should Sony, which introduced the game at its PlayStation Showcase event in 2021. After all, you can’t find the opening trailer on the company’s official channels at the moment, because it was downloaded in September of this year.
