In his garage, a Star Wars fan fulfilled his dream of owning his own X-Wing starfighter. Now Akaki Lekiachvili is using the spaceship for a good cause.
The idea of building your own X-Wing came up back in 2016. It took Lekiachvili six years to complete the project – in the meantime he even had to expand his garage because the spaceship was getting too big. Now he wants to use the finished spaceship for a good cause: “To fight the evil empire, like in the movies,” says the doctor from Atlanta.

For him, this means collecting donations for Ukraine. Because the Russian invasion started just at the beginning of 2022, when Lekiachvili finished his handicraft work. The fact that he and his wife both have roots in Poland, a direct neighbor of Ukraine, also increased the desire to help.

Instead of leaving the spacecraft in the garage, Lekiachvili began to capitalize on the attention: “We roll out the X-wing and people are queuing. Kids want to sit in it and push buttons, take pictures and donate. It’s already a good sum got together.”

Incidentally, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj is also likely to be a Star Wars fan: he recently showed himself in his well-known olive-green T-shirt, albeit decorated with an X-wing.
