For three seasons, the first interstellar adventures of Captain Kirk and his crew aboard the ship Enterprise were seen. In addition to Kirk, one of the most notable characters of this first batch was Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy. Spock was a half-human, half-Vulcan being, with a cold and somewhat dehumanized personality. However, he ended up being one of the most beloved members of the Enterprise.
The music for the first season of the series was composed by Alexander Courage and was used for countless sequels and films in the franchise.
Another highlight was one of television’s first multiracial inclusions, casting actress Nichelle Nichols as Lieutenant Uhura in a character other than a domestic servant. This is explained by the fact that in the 23rd century, where the story took place, there was no longer racial segregation. Likewise, in the third episode of the third season, the first interracial kiss in the history of North American television took place, between Nichols and William Shatner.
Throughout the chapters of the series, technological means have been seen that would become a reality on a massive scale, such as touch screens, tablets, and wireless headphones. Despite all the progress it had, the series was canceled after 3 seasons of 79 episodes in 1969. However, some time later the fanaticism grew, and an animated series would be launched, which would give rise to four other television series, thirteen movies and at least 26 video games.
In fact, thanks to this, the original franchise was included in the Guinness Record as the series with the largest number of spin-off series in the history of television.
Many years later, more precisely in September 2006, CBS released a remastered edition, in high definition and with CGI special effects of the first episodes.
In October 2021, William Shatner made the news again when, at age 90, he was one of the four crew members of the second suborbital flight of the New Shepard spacecraft of the Blue Origin space flight company, owned by Amazon magnate Jeff Bezos.
On December 9, 1966, the NBC television network began broadcasting the series Star Trek – Star Trek.
