Using the Space Telescope Hubbleastronomers recorded the moment when a star swallowed by a black hole transforms into a huge ‘doughnut’ shaped cloud of gas.

The space event took place at a distance of 300 million light years from Earth, in the galaxy ESO 583-G004, and the observation was made using the space telescope’s ultraviolet instruments.
The phenomenon is known as tidal break eventin which a star that passes close enough to a supermassive black hole begins to have its gases pulled by the enormous gravitational force until it is totally destroyed, forming the huge donut-shaped cloud that eventually falls into the black hole, releasing an amount of tremendous amount of light and high energy radiation.
The phenomenon is considered rare. It is believed to happen once or twice every 100,000 years, with only 100 occurrences detected by astronomers.
