Carlos Alcaraz, current US Open champion, is in the semifinals again where he will face Russian Daniil Medvedev in a tournament in which, up to now, he is rationing efforts, showing off very effective tennis and limiting his time on the court as much as possible.

The last example was his quarterfinal crossing in which he beat the German Alexander Zverev in two hours and 30 minutes. It should be remembered that he started his journey with “energy savings” due to an injury to German Dominik Koepfer after just 60 minutes. In the second round he too continued on the fast track with a win over South African Lloyd Harris in two hours and 28 minutes. His third match, against the British Daniel Evans, was the only one in which so far he has strayed somewhat from that path, giving up a set (the only one so far) in three hours and 11 minutes. Easier was his crossing of eighths vs. the Italian Matteo Arnaldi in one hour and 57 minutes.
In total, Alcaraz has only played one match over three hours and, not counting the first round, accumulates a 12-1 in sets. This trend contrasts, for example, with his run to the title in 2022.

For example, Alcaraz played a memorable quarterfinal match last year against the Italian Jannik Sinner that ended with a victory for the Spaniard at almost three in the morning and after more than five hours of vibrant and spectacular tennis.
It was no exception since, from the round of 16, Alcaraz played five sets in all his matches until the final, including very demanding and long duels against the Croatian Marin Cilic (round of 16) or the American Frances Tiafoe (semifinals). Instead, the final against the Norwegian Casper Ruud was resolved in four sleeves.
