Today, on March 4, the Star Festival will start in the concert hall “Big Amber”. The Liepaja Symphony Orchestra continues this tradition for 30 years. The anniversary concerts are overshadowed by the events of the war in Ukraine, so the concert program also had to be rescheduled. Given the current situation, Russian opera singer Hibla Gerzmava, who is loyal to the Putin regime, will not perform in Liepaja. In solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the orchestra invited Ludmila Monastirsk, an opera singer from Ukraine, to replace her. At the same time, the concert will be performed by Russian pianist Alexander Melnikov, who condemns the war in Ukraine and feels complicit in it.
