When organizing the Liepāja International Star Festival, the organizers had to face a number of unpredictable changes in the plan. The composition of the orchestra’s musicians, as well as the performance of some invited conductors, was adjusted by the conditions of the pandemic, but the biggest challenge was the closing concert due to the change of soloists.
Uldis Lipskis, the director of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra, says: “At the end of the festival we planned to cooperate with the outstanding Russian soprano Hibla Gerzmava, but it is clear that We wanted the program to remain the same as our listeners, the ticket buyers, and one of the most famous Ukrainian singers, soprano Lyudmila Monastirska, referred to us, so it is an absolute replacement. in terms of art, as well as a very symbolic gesture on our part. “
In order to express their attitude towards what is happening in Ukraine and to morally support the soloist Ludmila Monastirska, the musicians of the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gintars Rinkevics performed the Ukrainian national anthem before the concert.
In a conversation before the concert, the artist revealed that she is not returning home to Kiev with her family, and she currently lives in hotels in the countries where she is going to perform: “I’m trying to get somehow, but it’s difficult. It’s very hard to hold on I have to sing, I have to work, that’s my profession – going on stage, that’s what I can do as an artist, I can support in this way. I agree with the concerts, including the Liepaja concert is one of those concerts. “
Saying goodbye to the audience of Liepaja and expressing gratitude to our people for their support, Lyudmila Monostirska performed a Ukrainian folk song, which earned her standing not only from the local audience, but also from the Ukrainian refugees who had come to the concert.
