Star Citizen Facing Turmoil with Layoffs Amidst $667 Million Success

Star Citizen has already grossed over $667 million, despite the game still being in alpha 10 years later. It looks like the sci-fi game’s luck is slowly running out.

Many Cloud Imperium Games developers have reported layoffs at the company. These include several people key to the development of Star Citizen, including project director Todd Papi, who said goodbye to the company last week.

In addition to the director, Star Citizen lost level/environment designer Dane Kubica and head of quality control Vincent Sinatra. Among those fired is producer Annie Bouffard, who complained on LinkedIn about the allegedly terrible atmosphere in the Cloud Imperium Games team. According to Bouffard, toxic relationships reign in the company, and proposals to improve the team’s work are met only with harsh criticism and anger.

Annie Bouffard also stated that Cloud Imperium Games carried out “mass layoffs” at the end of January, trying to hide this maneuver as best as possible. The company reduced the number of employees when moving to a new office.

Cloud Imperium Games has not yet responded to this news. Recall that the company recorded record revenues in 2023 after the presentation of Squadron 42.
