Star Academy will underline the 40e anniversary of Queen’s appearance at the Montreal Forum during the Sunday variety, at TVA. And who better to sing Somebody to Love with the academicians that Sylvain Cossette, proud admirer of Freddie Mercury, who interpreted the mythical piece hundreds of times in his tour 70s?
In November 1981, Sylvain Cossette was only a young adult of 18 years … and he was unfortunately not at the Forum, on November 24 and 25, when Queen rocked the speaker and burned the album Queen Rock Montreal. Four decades later, he still swallows his frustration by falling back on the DVD.
“I have friends who were at this” show “, who sickened me by telling me that they were there, and not me, says the singer, caught by the QMI Agency on Wednesday, at the end of a day of snowmobile trekking. Each time I am told that they had an unforgettable time. It’s still great that there is a recording made in Montreal of such a show. It’s really touching to see that. ”
Sylvain Cossette and the band Star Academy will therefore try, Sunday, the time of a “medley” in the colors of Queen, to revive the magic of the moment.
“I’m really a ‘fan’ of Queen and Freddie Mercury, who is one of my two favorite singers along with Paul McCartney. I love singing Queen, it’s always a big challenge for me, and the piece Somebody to Love goes well with my voice register, ”continues Sylvain Cossette.

Sylvain Cossette also lives a very special story with Star Academy. The artist was invited to the very first reality show, on February 16, 2003. He has performed there many other times since.
So far, Sylvain Cossette has not yet had much of a chance to get to know the young talents of the current edition, but the man is always happy to share the stage with workers.
If he believes he has no advice to give to those who do not want it, he never fails to remind beginners of the importance of work who listen to him.
“There are young artists who are sometimes surprised when they see the workload it takes to become an accomplished artist. It’s always interesting to see how much passion they have. Work remains the most important; it’s all well and good to dream, but it’s not the dream that makes a career. You can have the greatest talent in the world, but if you think that everything is owed to you, if you have a bad attitude, if you think that everything is going to be easy, change jobs right away. “
“You can have instant success, but it’s very rare. The majority of successful people are those who have worked very hard. Me, I’ve been doing this for 40 years, I sang in bars, I toured a lot, I wrote and produced albums, I did my staging and my scripts … I know what it takes, but it’s never guaranteed. Even if we give everything, it may not work, but at least we know that we have given our 100%, ”concludes Sylvain Cossette, who was already planning to take a sabbatical in 2020, before the pandemic does not break out, and which is simmering a new tour, which it will probably launch in 2022.
Sylvain Cossette is among the guests of the Sunday variety of Star Academy, at 7 p.m., where Pierre Lapointe, Koriass, FouKi and finalists from Star Academy 2012.
