Stany Crets calls on Sunday to protest at Muntplein against the closure of the cultural sector

Stany Crets calls on Sunday afternoon to gather at the Muntplein in Brussels to protest against the closure of the cultural sector. ‘For the umpteenth time we are the black sheep. The slaughter lamb,” said the actor and theater maker on his Facebook page on Thursday.

The Consultative Committee decided on Wednesday to introduce a ban on indoor events, including cultural and theater performances and cinema screenings, from December 26.

‘The events, culture and entertainment sector, or whatever we want to call it, is going down the drain. The catering industry is not affected. They are fully awarded, don’t get me wrong. And that is strange to say the least,” Crets writes on Facebook.

According to the actor, no one in the cultural sector understands this new measure and blow to the sector. ‘No one understands. Neither the producers, nor the actors or creatives, nor the public, and more importantly, even within the parties of the policymakers, so much absurdism is knocked down.’

‘Solidarity no longer an argument’

According to Crets, the cultural sector has always prioritized solidarity over self-interest. ‘But solidarity is no longer an argument. Not if there is once again arbitrariness and weights and measures’, says the theater maker.

Crets states that the cultural sector ‘represents thousands of different activities that cannot be lumped together’. ‘But we are one sector for the government. And that sucks big time. Because our differentiation is our weakness. As a result, we always have different interests to defend and it is difficult for us to speak as one voice in press releases and on TV and radio. Let alone that we can get on the street as one block.’

The manifestation would take place next Sunday at 2 pm on the Muntplein in Brussels.
