Stanisław Witek died on April 13, 2024, at the age of 72. In recent years, the husband of the former Speaker of the Sejm has been struggling with illness. In 2018, he won a seat as a Jawor district councilor, which he lost in 2022 due to his health condition. In July last year, he was transferred from the ICU to the palliative ward of the hospital in Legnica.
On Wednesday, in Jawor (Lower Silesia), a crowd of mourners said goodbye to a former anti-communist oppositionist. Elżbieta Witek spoke at the ceremony.
– I am extremely grateful for the kindness of my friends, neighbors, co-workers and everyone. Sometimes you came from so far away to be with me on such a day. I am never alone – said the former Speaker of the Sejm, quoted by “Super Express”.

The tabloid reported that “the Marshal of the Sejm, without hiding her emotion, talked about her marriage. She emphasized that Stanisław was her first and only love.”
“He taught young generations to share goodness, showed them what was most important in life. Stanisław Witek passed away after a long and serious illness. Today we say goodbye to him. I express my condolences to Elżbieta Witek and the entire family of the deceased,” wrote the former Minister of Justice.
After 3 p.m., Stanisław Witek was buried at the municipal cemetery in Jawor.
Stanisław Witek was detained many times for his underground activities. This happened for the first time on September 3, 1982, when he participated in anti-government demonstrations in Legnica. He was then sentenced to 3 months’ imprisonment.
