“Today, unfortunately, leadership is misunderstood as chieftaincy. Everyone is the leader of his tribe, of his party, and he is only interested in the opinion of the tribe. But at the end of the day, we are one society, one nation, and party leaders should not be so selfish. Now it seems that the formation of a coalition depends on the local elections. But this understanding is a loser for politicians – they will lose supporters if they do not participate in governance because people expect clear accountability. During the mandate of my government, we entered into a coalition with the NDSV, to which we were previously in opposition. But we were aware that important decisions for the country were coming, and we did everything in our power to lead it forward. This did not prevent us from having different candidates for the local elections.
Leadership means leading public opinion, not being a function of moods and populist attitudes. Public opinion is not static, it changes with arguments and courage for real action.

Asked about the options for forming a government, he stated: “Before the vote, there were a lot of publications about how the second should support the first for a cabinet. It is high time to have a platform to ensure the future of the country and give security to the people. And this can only be done with solid parliamentary support – in this case GERB – PP/DB.”
Asked to comment on BSP’s poor results, the former leftist leader pointed out that in 2017 the party had 950,000 votes and today – 225,000. “This is mainly due to the fact that the party leadership is leading it in the wrong direction. direction. We were strongest when the left was consolidated around the BSP and we went to the center in elections. Back then, the left was the first or second political force. Now the BSP has lost its face, its periphery and its supporters. Her campaign was built on people’s fears, not responding to their problems. And of course it poured water into the mill of “Vazrazhdane”. “
In the studio, Stanishev also answered a question about the possible participation of the BSP in a future government. “I don’t see how the party will participate in a cabinet that will clearly state as a priority the sending of weapons to Ukraine. This means that its leadership should abandon everything that has been said so far and do the opposite of what BSP members expect.”
