Stanishev: The left should keep technologies in a philanthropic framework and take advantage of their opportunities – 2024-02-27 02:23:33

/ world today news/ Our mission is to prevent the technological revolution from deepening inequalities, believes the PES president

“Today we are talking about the future. For the Internet, for artificial intelligence, for biotechnology and biohacking, for future professions. For the new skills of the new generations. We are witnessing dramatic changes, but if we don’t do something, very soon we will see a new class division – of alpha people and the “extra” people. Let us choose to take advantage of technological progress instead of willingly being its hostages and letting it dictate our lives. If we don’t put technology in a philanthropic cage, it will deepen inequalities and distort the future labor market. Our idea for this meeting is to bring the topic into the political and public debate in Bulgaria. I really want you, as young politicians, to take the maximum of today’s talk and turn it into messages, into concrete proposals. Nobody in our country talks about these possibilities and problems. It’s like the future won’t happen if we don’t talk about it. On the contrary, it will hit us faster than we think.”

This is how Sergey Stanishev addressed the Youth Union in BSP during the two-day seminar “Professions of the Future”, organized by PES and the youth organization of the party (YES).

“Today’s challenges are threefold. The first of these is war, and we as socialists must never put up with it. We should look for political solutions instead of fighting with slogans about who will win on the battlefield. In second place are the battle for resources and the climate crisis. We’re back to talking about basic resources – energy, minerals and food. Third, the technological revolution – artificial intelligence, biotechnology and their impact on the labor market.”

Gabriel Valkov, the chairman of the MoD in BSP, pointed out that “the subject of the professions of the future seems distant and somewhat neglected. The role of the MoD is to talk about labor rights, new skills and education reform. This meeting is the beginning of a comprehensive campaign on the subject. We agreed on the important messages and we are starting the political conversation with the young people of Bulgaria.”

Nase Nasev, international secretary of the youth structure of the Social Democratic Union of North Macedonia, said that he came to Bulgaria on the third day after his election, because young people look to the future and have no prejudices. “We can help each other for the professions of the future, because the most influential spheres in the economy of both countries are the same. We have common challenges.”

Futurologist Mariana Todorova, political scientists Strahil Deliyski and Toncho Kraevski, sociologists Dimitar Ganev and Stefan Georgiev, publicist Stanislav Dodov, Yavor Gechev – Minister of Agriculture, former chairman of the Ministry of Defense of the BSP, Spas Kerimov, creator and executive took part in the conversation about the professions of the future. director of “Printivo”, Alexa Tachev from the “I can here and now” platform and the competitor and e-sports coach Hristo Angelov and Pavel Zarkov.

A sociological survey by the Trend Research Center shows that, according to 83% of respondents, in the future the labor market will require everyone to have digital skills, and 71% expect great inequality between people. For 71%, when choosing a profession, “it brings a lot of money” is most important.

“Expecting the unexpected” is the new normal, according to futurologist Marianna Todorova. “In 2050, 53% of people are expected to be self-employed, there will be a job change every two years, and each person will change 9 jobs in their lifetime.”

“The future will depend on who owns the robots,” Strahil Deliyski provoked the audience and added that “the job of the socialists is to design such a labor market where people control the robots and not just consume what they produce.”

“At the moment, the turnover from agriculture is greater than that of the energy sector and the production of medicines. Today, Europe is photographed every 6 minutes, and technology contributes to greater yields and the control of crop pests. Technology has made it all cheaper. Agriculture is changing, but it will certainly offer the professions of the future. Don’t be afraid, take risks and be disobedient,” said acting minister Yavor Gechev to the youth.
