“Ten years ago, there were almost no Chinese investments in Europe. Today they are over 14 billion euros. The Silk Road can open up new opportunities for communications, transport infrastructure and investment, both by sea and land. The EU wants this strategic partnership, and my country – Bulgaria – is the “door” for its realization.

This was stated by PES President Sergey Stanishev at his meeting with Liu Yun Chen – a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. At it, he presented the European position on behalf of over 30 European parties, including Sarkozy’s Republicans and Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union.

Stanishev is in China as a guest of the 5th EU-China high-level political forum. This forum is a strategic platform for dialogue between parties from all political families in the EU and China.

During his visit to China, the PES president held meetings at a high political level and with government representatives. He pointed out that China is the first non-EU country to declare its financial support for the Juncker Plan and since the beginning of the year has been a member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The economy, investment and the protection of social standards were among the topics of his meetings, as well as the new role of the EU and China as factors of stability.
