Standard de Liège has formalized the arrival of its new coach, the Norwegian Ronny Deila.
“Standard has reached an agreement with Ronny DEILA and New York City FC: the Norwegian becomes the new coach of Standard de Liège”, announces the club in a press release.
Standard had been without a coach since the departure of Luka Elsner, who left Sclessin in April the day after the club was taken over by the 777 Partners group.
The Rouches returned to the stadium on Monday for two days of physical tests, which will be followed by the resumption of training on Wednesday.
Ronny Deila, 46, had been the coach of New York City FC for two years, a club of the City Football Group from which Irishman Fergal Harkin, the new sporting director of the Rouches, also came. Pierre Locht was confirmed as CEO last week.

Before coaching NYFC, with which he was MLS champion in 2021, Deila sat on the bench of Brodd (2005), Stromsgodset (2008-2014) and Valerenga (2017-2019) in Norway, and Celtic Glasgow, which he managed from 2014 to 2016. With the Bhoys, the Norwegian was Scottish champion in 2015 and 2016 and won the Scottish League Cup in 2015. He was also Norwegian champion with Stromsgodset in 2013, club with which he also won the Norwegian Cup in 2010.
