Standard formation dancing: Göttingen wins the Bundesliga and qualifies for the World Cup

The die has been cast: The dance sport team of ASC 46 Göttingen has won the Bundesliga series 2022 of the best German standard formations. After the 2021 season had failed, the Göttingen dancers defended the 2020 title. Also because the hosts also qualified for the World Championships in October in Braunschweig, the around 800 spectators acknowledged the performance with standing ovations.

On the last of the four tournament weekends, the seven judges had seen the reigning German champions Braunschweiger TSC (1132211) with four ones just ahead of the hosts (2211122) with three ones. TSC Rot-Gold Casino Nürnberg (3323333) and newly promoted TD TSC Düsseldorf Rot-Weiss (4444444) followed on Saturday. TSC Blau-Gold Nienburg, TSZ Blau-Gold-Casino Darmstadt and the Göttingen B-Team have to be relegated to the second division.

The first teams had already arrived on Saturday morning to prepare for the tournament, which began with the first round in the early evening under the direction and sovereign moderation of the Göttingen tournament director Kai Feldhusen (“It was a great experience”). The teams present also danced against a dreary and sad time, not least because the pandemic had gotten to the nerves of all formations and dancers in the past few weeks and months.

For example, the veteran TC Ludwigsburg, the TSZ Blau-Gold-Casino Darmstadt and shortly before the start of the event TSV Bocholt had to cancel for the 2022 final in Göttingen. “During this extraordinary season, there was sometimes daily news as to whether a tournament was going to take place at all and which team was unable to compete due to illness. So you appreciate it even more to be able to stand on the floor at the end,” said the Göttingen dancer Susanne Schmid. “So I’m incredibly happy and grateful for every single tournament I was allowed to dance with the Tanzsportteam Göttingen. This season in particular, cohesion was more important than ever. We didn’t focus so much on placing, but simply on showing a good team performance, having fun on the dance floor and despite all the circumstances, as the name of our choreography suggests, being ‘happy together’.”

Team spokeswoman Sannah Burkhardt was relieved: “We danced two good sets and ended the season with dignity. The final round in particular was characterized by emotions, as it was the last round for this season with this great team,” said the dancer. “We had a blast dancing in front of our own audience and are proud of what we showed. Therefore, the result is almost irrelevant.”

Head coach Markus Zimmermann described the “top result of the senior team and the associated Bundesliga victory as a special highlight”. Marc Bieler from the Göttingen coaching quartet was also “very proud of our team, which fought through this bizarre season so sustainably and ended up being the deserved Bundesliga winners”.

On the other hand, the relegation of the Göttingen B team from the Bundesliga was accompanied by a bit of melancholy: “We are very proud of what we were able to show at all the tournaments we competed in this season,” said dancer Johanna Wille. “Due to Corona and private changes, we had to deal with various obstacles throughout the season. We can call ourselves the best B team in Germany at the moment and can look back with satisfaction on the past period.”
