Under the eyes of Michel Preud’homme, who returned to Liège after taking advantage of a few weeks of vacation, Standard won its fourth friendly preparation match against Mechelen, where everything was played in the run-up to the game hour.
With a first goal from Amallah, on a service from Lestienne. Three other achievements followed: the second of the evening by young Damjan Pavlovic in two stages, the third by Shamir following a very good work by Oulare and the fourth by Mitchy Ntelo on a new assist from Oulare. Tapsoba was very close to making 5-0 on a shot that went to the left of Coucke’s goal, just like Ntelo at the end of the match, with a ball pushed away, on a free kick, by the post.
Until then, the Liège team, articulated around a three-man defense composed of Vojvoda, Vanheusden and Laifis, had spared the best possibilities, without however succeeding in hitting the target, like this recovery of Gavory far from the goal of Coucke, this guilty hesitation of Lestienne on a breakthrough of Fai, this sending of the same Fai not framed following a work of Lestienne and Amallah and this recovery of Cimirot which forced the Malinois goalkeeper to deflect the ball above its transverse. On the other side, only Igor De Camargo really had the opportunity to worry Arnaud Bodart, the only Liège player to have been lined up for 90 minutes. Philippe Montanier indeed changed his entire team at the hour of play, when the score was 1-0, without touching the scheme with an unprecedented defense with Dussenne in the center, Nekadio on the right and Joachim Carcela on the left.
4-0: the essential is acquired for the Standard which, if it sometimes lacked precision, was reassured defensively and offensively before being offered a first big test, Wednesday in Seraing, and behind closed doors, face at AS Monaco. Finally, it should be noted that the sick Mehdi Carcela overlooked this friendly match against Mechelen, as did Bokadi, Raskin, Boljevic and Cop, slightly injured and spared.
