An evening full of student humour: this week more than 350 students gathered in the Boom Chicago for a stand-up comedy night. The evening is organized for and by UvA students. For many of the UvA comedy talents it was the first time performing on such a large stage.

No less than six international students from the UvA dare to step on stage. The jokes are mainly about being an international student in Amsterdam. That is precisely what makes the event create solidarity, according to one of the visitors. “Because all the jokes are in English, we can all identify with them. Everything is aimed at students, so we can all identify with it.”

Damian is part of the organization of the evening. It is the first time that such a large event has been organized by the students. “That so many people are coming is very exciting for everyone,” says Damian. “It is the first time for the comedians to do such a big show. Normally they do shows for a maximum of 20.30 people. The fact that 350 fellow students have now turned up is very special.”
