Stan Wawrinka triumphs in New York

Stan Wawrinka dethrones Novak Djokovic and wins the US Open for the first time. At 31 years and five months he is the oldest Grand Slam winner since Andre Agassi and only the fifth man to win two or more majors when he is over thirty.

Suddenly it happened so quickly that Stan Wawrinka hardly had time to realize what was happening to him. Or better, perhaps: what he let happen. One last serve, a backhand from Novak Djokovic that got long and longer. And from one moment to the next, the 31-year-old Romand won the US Open. It was 6: 7 (1: 7), 6: 4, 7: 5, 6: 3 at the end.
