TennisStan Wawrinka outclasses Andy Murray at Bordeaux
The Vaudois easily qualified for the quarter-finals of the Bordeaux Challenger on Wednesday by dominating the Briton 6-3 6-0.
Stan Wawrinka (ATP 84) is in the quarter-finals of the Bordeaux Challenger. On Wednesday, the 38-year-old Vaudois won 6-3 6-0 against Andy Murray (ATP 42). A performance of choice against the No. 2 seed of the tournament, which will do him good as Roland-Garros approaches (May 22–June 11). It was the 23rd duel between the two men, with a record favorable to the Briton (13-10).
It only took 1h15 for “Stan the Man” to defeat the man who has three Grand Slam titles, a Masters, two gold medals at the Olympics and 46 titles on the ATP circuit. In a tight first set, the Vaudois made the difference in the 4th game, taking his opponent’s service to lead 3-1. An advantage he will retain without conceding a single break point and winning the first set in 46 minutes.
Then Wawrinka unrolled, inflicting a bicycle wheel on an overtaken Murray. The Briton only got one chance to steal the serve from the Vaudois, when he was trailing 5-0. But the number 84 at the ATP did not let go of his bone, concluding his demonstration on his 2nd match point.
In the quarters, Stan Wawrinka, who had only spent 68 minutes on the court in the previous round against Frenchman Ugo Blanchet (ATP 336), will face the winner of the duel between Frenchman Ugo Humbert (ATP 50) and Belgian Gauthier Onclin (ATP 209). A new opportunity for the former world No. 3 to show that he is gaining momentum before the Parisian Grand Slam.
