Stamp auction: “Saxony Dreier” auctioned for 260,000 euros | Regional

Wiesbaden/Dresden – A good 170-year-old Saxon stamps were auctioned off at the Heinrich Koehler auction house in Wiesbaden on Saturday. The starting price for the “Saxony Dreier” was 80,000 euros – in the end the rarity went under the hammer for 260,000 euros.

An anonymous bidder in the hall and a bidder on the phone fought over the brands, a spokeswoman for the auction house said on Saturday afternoon.

The first postage stamp from the Kingdom of Saxony was introduced in 1850. Just one year later it was replaced by a new brand – the remainder of the “Saxony Dreier” was destroyed.

The mint block of four stamps on sale that weekend escaped destruction. It comes from the collection of Erivan Haub, the former Tengelmann boss. According to the auction house, the stamps are of museum importance. The second half of the block is therefore in the possession of the Bonn Philately Archive.
