“Again, the electricity of the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange was traded at a scandalously high price today.” That’s what he said about NOVA the Chairman of the Management Board of BFIEK Konstantin Stamenov. A report shows that it was 155.19 euros or 303.53 levs per megawatt hour. According to him, in just ten days the energy sector has “drained” more than BGN 53 million from the business.
He added that the country’s electricity consumption, as well as for export, is expected to be at normal levels and finds no reason for the high price. Stamenov explained that three of the eight units of TPP “Maritsa East 2” operate at reduced capacity.
The chairman of BICA Vasil Velev commented on the electricity prices with a post on Facebook. In it he clarifies, Bulgaria has the most expensive electricity in Europe.
Later today, the Ministry of Energy announced that TPP “Maritsa East 2” includes more facilities for operation on the free market
“The active communication of the management of the Ministry of Energy with TPP” Maritsa East 2 “on the work of the plant for the free market continues. According to data from the Bulgarian Independent Energy Exchange, the expectations for tomorrow, August 9, 2021, the electricity prices of the Day Ahead segment again exceed BGN 300 / MWh. In response to this situation, the management of the Ministry of Energy insisted to the management of the TPP that additional capacities of the plant be put into operation tomorrow for operation on the free market. This is an opportunity both for the realization of additional revenues by the plant and for reducing the pressure on the market from the high electricity prices “, stated by the relevant department.
The Ministry of Economy also clarified that only a few days ago, as a result of an active dialogue between the management of the Ministry of Energy and TPP Maritza East 2 for operation on the free market at full capacity, a third unit of the plant was switched on. its eight blocks. “This immediately affected prices, reducing their values by about BGN 70 per day,” the energy ministry explained.
We remind you that during the week the Association of Bulgarian Employers’ Organizations (AOBR) sent a letter to the Prime Minister Stefan Yanev with a request for urgent action on electricity prices. According to the Association, a deficit is systematically created on the electricity market in Bulgaria, provoked by the limited supply.
