Tragically deceased Carl Weathers starred opposite Sylvester Stallone in the first four “Rocky” films.
The actor and the director Carl Weathers passed away yesterday, Friday, aged 76, and now fans and colleagues around the world are mourning. One of those who spoke is Sylvester Stallonewho starred opposite Weathers in the first four “Rocky” films.
In a video he posted on Instagram, Stallone talks about his relationship with Weathers, and how important he was to “Rocky”. Among other things, Stallone says:
– I could never have achieved what we did with “Rocky” without him (Weathers, eds.anm). He was absolutely brilliant. His voice, his size, his power, his athleticism, but most importantly, his heart, his soul. It is a terrible loss.
He concludes:
– He was magical, and I was incredibly lucky to be a part of his life. So Apollo, keep hitting.”

Weathers’ role as Rocky’s rival and later friend Apollo Creed was one of the highlights of his career. He played the character in the first four “Rocky” movies. Apollo Creed became such an iconic figure that a spinoff film about his son became its own film series (the “Creed” films with Michael B. Jordan).
Even stars such as Pedro Pascal, Adam Sandler, Monica Barbaro and Katee Sackhoff have paid tribute to Weathers on social media.
