Stalled Talks between WGA and Major Film Studios leave Script Writers on Strike

The talks between the American script writers union WGA and the major film studios have so far yielded nothing. No agreement on new contracts has yet been reached.

WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which negotiates on behalf of the movie studios and streaming services, talked Friday for the first time in three months.

Script writers have been on strike since May 1 because they want better pay, among other things. They also want higher remuneration for streaming services and better rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the making of films and series.

According to the scriptwriters association, AMPTP has promised that it is willing to meet the writers in some areas. AMPTP now wants to consult with the studios before the talks can continue.

On top of the script writers’ strike, there was also the strike of the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA last month. As a result, countless productions in Hollywood are currently on hold.
