Stalled Negotiations and Strike Threat in F League Over Minimum Salary Demands

“Salaries commensurate with their talent.” This is the point at which the collective agreement has stalled because, although since the F League They assure that the clubs cannot assume the minimum salary demanded by the soccer players, the Futpro union defends in its latest statement that “the five unions continue to maintain a firm proposal regarding the minimum wage so that the soccer players in our country have salaries commensurate with their talent.”

The employers propose a minimum salary of 20,000 euros, extendable to a maximum of 23,000, but the unions will not give in to a minimum of 23,000 euros. That is the existing distance that has led to the strike called for this weekend on the first day of League F. The competition will not be able to start and both parties have met for next Tuesday to try another possibility of agreement that could avoid that the second day is not played.

It is hard but not impossible. After a marathon meeting of more than ten hours last Wednesday, an agreement could not be reached on the renewal of the collective agreement between the Women’s Professional League and the unions Futpro, AFE, Futbolistas ON, UGT AND CC.OO. who are part of the negotiating table.

The situation remains blocked. The footballers are not willing to accept the proposal put forward by the League for this season regarding minimum salary, which is the great obstacle in the negotiation. The employer offers 20,000 euros per year – the current minimum salary is 16,000 euros – and the option of reaching 23,000 this same 2023-2024 season, depending on the commercial sale of League F. Anything that involves earning above The 8 million euros in this matter will be used to try to reach 23,000 euros annually. For their part, the unions’ alternative is to start at 23,000 euros for this season with the possibility of reaching 25,000 if there are benefits from television rights. In this case, it would start from 25,000 euros for this season to reach 30,000 in the next. However, the offer has been rejected by the entity chaired by Beatriz Álvarez.

“Going on strike right now is like shooting yourself in the foot,” declared the president. “We have put all our efforts into action, we have exercised absolute frankness with the unions. “They keep saying that it is not viable, they block it,” added the president, who assured that “this is as far as we can go, what we cannot do is not be responsible when it comes to making the competition viable. There are clubs that cannot take on more.”

The unions, after consulting the soccer players, rejected the proposal. It’s not just a matter of money, it’s being able to be and act like professionals. In fact, it is a difference of 3,000 euros that prevents reaching an agreement, a barrier that is currently insurmountable.

The agreement on the minimum wage would allow other important issues to be addressed such as conciliation, maternity rights, the review of the harassment protocol or training rights, among others, in order to renew the collective agreement once and for all. The season was supposed to start today, Friday, with the match between Sevilla and UDG Tenerife, which remains in suspense in a women’s game that gives no respite, but

It surprises and saddens us. the position of the employers during the negotiations, which at all times has been one of firm immobility in the face of the proposal made by the unions.
