Stalker 2 developer to auction ‘Metahuman’ NFTs that owners make an NPC – Gaming – News

GSC Game World has confirmed that Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is getting NFTs. These will be optional according to the developer and will not affect gameplay. Among other things, three ‘Metahuman’ NFTs are being auctioned. Owners of those become an npc in Stalker 2.

From non-fungible tokens in Stalker 2 become a part of de Stalker Metaverse, GSC Game World announces. For this, the company works together with nft platform DMarket. The developer will “use blockchain technology” to let players “own part of Stalker 2”. The studio clarified on Twitter that Stalker 2 itself will not be a blockchain game, and that the NFTs will be completely optional and will not affect the gameplay.

GSC Game World has also announced its first set of NFTs, in the form of a Metahuman token. This digitally recreates the faces of the nft owners and uses them for an in-game non-playable character, which is part of the game’s story. For this, the nft owners also have to come to the GSC Game World studio so that they can have their face scanned, confirms the company to The Verge.

The studio will be auctioning three of these Metahuman tokens in January. Other cosmetic NFTs for the game will be released in February. A portion of the proceeds from the Metahuman NFTs will be donated to charities, the developer reports. Furthermore, GSC Game World is not the only developer that uses NFTs in its game. Ubisoft announced last week to release nfts for Ghost Recon Breakpoint and Peter Molyneux works as they say to a ‘blockchain business simulator’.

With NFTs it is possible to record ownership online on a blockchain. This allows users in a game to record, for example, that a certain in-game item is theirs. Tweakers wrote earlier a backstory about nfts.

Stalker 2 will be released on April 28, 2022. The game will be available for Xbox Series X and S and PCs. The game will also be part of Xbox Game Pass. The game will run on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.
