Brandenburg/Havel. The Stahl-Palast was filled to bursting on Saturday and the Stahl-Cup attracted a lot of football fans. The otherwise good mood was somewhat marred by the results of the host, who, unlike in the other editions of this tournament, played no role in the awarding of the winner’s trophy. This was also due to the fact that new coach Aaron Müller’s team was drawn into a so-called hammer group. The two best in the group ultimately faced each other in the final, which was won by the U23s of 1. FC Magdeburg.

The small sticking point was the 3:3 at the start against Union Fürstenwalde. “We were the better team, led several times, but simply made too many individual mistakes,” said Aaron Müller. The Stahl team had largely no chance against Magdeburg and Gera. At least they were able to say goodbye to the tournament in fourth place with a 2-0 win over Dynamo Schwerin. And at the award ceremony, Leon Sitz, who had just returned from the USA, was honored as the best player of the tournament.

Empor Schenkenberg also took fourth place. The state class representative started with a 4:2 over Stahl Thale. But what followed was a very unfortunate 1:2 defeat against Werderaner FC. And more was certainly possible in the 3:4 win against Delay Sports. By the way, Delay Sports, the club run by YouTuber Elias Nerlich, has 454,000 followers on Instagram, almost as many as Union Berlin and Hertha BSC combined. With seven points it wasn’t enough for the Berliners to advance. At the end, Schenkenberger lost 2-0 against Chemie Premnitz.
BSG Stahl Brandenburg can now fully concentrate on preparations. On Wednesday the team, with several test players in the squad, will play their first test match at FSV Luckenwalde II and on Saturday the state league team will play against Brandenburg league team Werderaner FC Viktoria. The injured Pascal Karaterzi and Jonas Meyer will still be missing.
