JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo said, 2024 election stages will begin in the middle of this year even though the voting will only be held on February 14, 2024. He also asked his staff to stay focused on their work.
This was conveyed by Jokowi when chairing a limited meeting with ministers at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (9/5/2022).
“Regarding the stages Election 2024 which will begin in the middle of this year, I also ask the ministers for the heads of institutions to really focus on working on their respective duties,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi warned his staff to ensure that national strategic agendas are well implemented.
This is so that the 2024 General Election can be carried out smoothly without any significant disturbances.
“So that we can ensure that the national strategic agendas that are our shared priorities are carried out properly, that the elections are carried out properly, smoothly and without interference,” the president said.
The 2024 general election has become a polemic after the discourse of postponing the election and extending the presidential term of office to 3 terms.
However, the president has spoken about this. Jokowi ensured that the election day would still be held according to the schedule agreed upon by the DPR, the government and the election organizers, namely February 14, 2024.
“I ask to convey to the public that all stages and schedules for the implementation of the general election and local elections have been determined,” said Jokowi in a limited cabinet meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Sunday (10/4/2022).
“I think it’s clear, I already know that the election will be held on February 14, 2024,” he said.

Jokowi hopes that, with the confirmation of this date, no one will think that the government is trying to postpone the election.
This is also expected to end the discourse on extending the presidential term to 3 terms.
“This needs to be explained, lest there will be speculations circulating in the community that the government is trying to postpone the election or speculation regarding the extension of the president’s office and also related to the question of 3 terms,” he said.
