“Bubble”

On Friday, April 28, the play “Bubble” by Regnārs Vaivaras with the genre addition “What the doctors won’t tell you” will have its premiere at the Valmiera Drama Theater.

Adding that “we will not talk about death”, Regnārs Vyvars reveals the two most important things about this show:

“First of all, the play and the show are made up of my and the actors’ interviews with doctors, residents, nurses, paramedics, volunteers, patients, for waxers and for anti-vaxxerswho spent these two years (and some are still working) in the covid wards of hospitals throughout Latvia.

Secondly, this will be a therapy of lightness and humor after the two most unique years in the history of Latvia, which each of us and all of us spent together in a bubble. In a bubble – next to fear and restrictions, masks and disinfectants, house sitters and law enforcement officers who arrest on the streets at night freewheelingto apply to them domesticallybut days went in only allows benevolent needs in case.

In a bubble full of hope that it will all end someday, we will finally be able to smile at this time, to see and smile at ourselves in this time in the theater, to smile away from fear. The show is a colorful monument to our medical staff and to us, their patients.”

Upcoming performances: April 29 and 30

Dance Award

On Saturday, April 29, the third Dance Award ceremony will be held in Riga Circus, where artists of various dance genres will be awarded, as well as lifetime award recipients in the art of dance – choreographer, head of dance groups, head of the Dance Festival Ieva Adāvičas and ballet dancer, pedagogue Valērija Kuten.

The jury nominated nominees in 12 categories, providing an insight into the diversity of dance.

The Dance Award is the highest award in professional dance, given every two years for achievements in ballet, contemporary dance, stage folk dance and contemporary dance.

The creators of the third Dance Award ceremony, under the leadership of director Paula Płavniecs, want to confirm the importance of each genre and at the same time strengthen the understanding of both dance spectators and industry representatives about dance as a joint field of activity where all involved explore new possibilities and boundaries, therefore they have set the search for the ideal form as this year’s theme .

Live broadcast of the ceremony on April 29 at 19.00 on the LSM.lv portal.

“I’m coming back from far away” and “Iļguciem’s sisters”

Klodīne Galeā’s play “I return from afar” and Elita Kļaviņa’s documentary “Iļguciem’s Sisters” will be shown at the New Riga Theater. Two artistic languages combined in one project about family ties and a woman’s hopes and strength to live.

Claudine Galea deeply touches the themes of divorce and death in her works. This play is no exception. Unable to accept the reality that her husband and children have died in a tragic accident, Camilla embarks on an inner journey of her own making. She imagines that her husband and children are alive, but she is the one who leaves home. Fantasy gives you the opportunity to be with your loved ones even for a moment.

In the second act, the theater offers the audience the documentary film “The Sisters of Ilģuciem”. The action of the film takes place in Iļguciems women’s prison, where women serving sentences for serious crimes take part in the production of Anton Chekhov’s play “Three Sisters” in a theater studio together with professional actors Kaspars Znotiņa, Ivara Krasta, Ārta Krūmiņa, etc., simultaneously revealing their poignant family life stories and longings after humane treatment outside the prison walls.

Upcoming performances: April 30 and May 31
