In the last stage before the day off, the Tour de France will look at the Tignes ski resort, where it was supposed to visit as early as 2019. Two years ago, snow fell on the finish line of Montée de Tignes. they finished after 89 kilometers.

On Sunday, the peloton will “enjoy” up to five categorized climbs, including a hill of the highest category (HC).

The first mountain bonus will come shortly after the start. The initial 18 kilometers will go up a very gentle hill, but climbing the Côte de Domancy will quickly warn cyclists that this time there is no flat stage on the program. The length of 2.5 kilometers and the average incline of 9.4% is nothing that cyclists should be afraid of, but the first ascent of the day also includes several steep sections, during which some racers manage to sweat.

After passing the mountain bonus, the road continues uphill until the “package” reaches the village of Megève, where those interested in the green jersey bounce back to the speed bonus (Praz-sur-Arly), from which they will be separated at that time by about 6 kilometers.

After that, the riders will soon climb again, this time to the top of the first category of the Col des Saisies (length 9.4 km; slope 6.2%), from which a long descent to Beaufort leads. At this point, the hardest part of the day begins. Cyclists first climb to the top of the Col du Pré supercategory (length 12.6 km; inclination 7.7%) and after a very short time to rest, they start taking the exit again on the way to Cormet de Roselend, which attacks an altitude of almost 2,000 meters.

Another long, almost 20-kilometer, descent will take the participants of the Tour de France 2021 to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, which will again be just the beginning of the last ascent of the day. The slope of the road will be relatively stable in the first section, but in some sections it will also suffer resistant climbers. The first person to be in the Montee de Tignes is likely to win the entire stage. Although this is not the goal yet, until the end of the stage, cyclists have to cover the last 2 kilometers, which will go on a straight line.

The victory will probably be credited to the account of one of the favorites for the overall victory. This stage has the potential to create additional time differences between competitors.

The Tour de France entered its mountain part and these stages were never to the liking of Peter Sagan. We already saw on Saturday that he plans to save energy in the Alps and on Sunday it will be the same. In addition, the native of Žilina is still in pain after Monday’s fall. The weekend mountain stages together with Monday’s day off should create space for him to get together and prepare for the attack on the green jersey, which should come during the coming week.
