In the 11th stage of the Tour de France 2021, it belongs to the category of extremely expected. All cycling fans are wondering how the “old lady’s first double ascent” to Mont Ventoux will end.

The stage starts in the town of Saugues. While at first it will be mostly on the plain, after 30 kilometers the road will start to rise. The first check of the day will be the 4th category mountain premium on the Côte de Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (length 1.9 km; slope 6%). A little more than 10 kilometers will be followed by another evaluated climb of the same level on the Côte de Gordes (length 2.5 km; slope 5.1%). Among them, sprinters will also get their money’s worth, for which a speed bonus is prepared at Les Imberts.
Then there will be a sharp race. The two short hills mentioned are a suitable springboard to create an escape. The first sharp obstacle of the day will be the ascent to the Col de la Liguière (length 9.3 km; slope 6.7%), which, however, will only be a kind of appetizer of what awaits the riders in the second half of the day.
A relatively long but gentle descent will bring a “package” to Sault, after which the ascent to Mont Ventoux will basically begin, for which the competitors will “scratch” twice. First, the simplest of the three routes is prepared for them, nevertheless it will be a climb of a total length of more than 22 kilometers with an average slope of 5.1%. However, the road will be even more pronounced at the Reynard hut.
After overcoming the peak, where the best premium of the first category mountain awaits, the cyclists run back into the valley, so that they can then go on a classic ascent to Mont Ventoux (length 15.7 km; slope 8.8%). The slope will be cruelly steep from the very beginning. At Reynard, it’ll ease a little, but it’s still going to be a hell of an exhausting ordeal. The altitude of the peak of 1,910 meters and the mountain premium of the highest category (HC) speak for themselves. However, the finish line is not at Mont Ventoux this time, but the competitors still have to go back to the valley of Malaucène.
After almost 200 kilometers and five categorized climbs, an adept will probably rejoice in the victory for the overall championship.

The Tour de France owes nothing to the mountains and Wednesday will not wish Peter Sagan. Three categorized climbs of the highest level will plague even the most resistant climbers, so the Slovak cyclist will have something to do to reach the finish line within the set limit and without harm to health.
