Staffan Hildebrand is best known to many for his 80s youth films «G som i Gemenskap» and «Stockholmsnatt».
In the new book «G as in perpetrator», written by Sören «Sulo» Karlsson (52) and Deanne Rauscher (68), Hildebrand’s darkest sides are revealed. In the book, several tell about how the director dealt with young boys in his home.
Promises of “a better life”
According to Swedish Expressen Hildebrand attracted the boys by promising them film roles or exciting assignments in various film projects. He must also have invited them to a restaurant, or let them party with him.
Two of the boys, who at times lived with Hildebrand, tell in the book that through persuasion or promises of a better life, he made the boys have sex with him. At this time, the boys were 13 and 15 years old, which Hildebrand herself confirms to Expressen.
– He ruined my life
The sexual abuse is said to have lasted for several years, until after the youngest boy had turned 16.
– I was a child. He ruined my whole life, says the 13-year-old boy in the book.
At the time Hildebrand committed the abuse, he did not experience that he was doing anything wrong.
– I did not do it then, but now, with the knowledge I have gained after “Metoo” and all that. Of course it is wrong, says Hildebrand to Expressen.
Now he hopes the book can become a “book of atonement.”
Think the victims are served by him standing up
– I want to ask for forgiveness and say that I have made a mistake – and move on in life, says the filmmaker.
He believes the victims will benefit from his full name.
When asked if he feels he manipulated or brainwashed the 13-year-old boy, Hildebrand answers:
– No, I do not think so. But maybe I did.
In the book, Staffan Hildebrand wants to express his love for the youngest of the boys, who is now over 60 years old.
– He may look at it as love, but I look at it as a sick act. Deep down, I understand that it was not my fault, it was not me who came up with this, who had this plan, the man answers via Expressen.
