At PostNL they also see that online stores are booming, especially now that the stores are closed. “Everyone has the same challenges,” said spokesman Lies Florentie. “Online orders have skyrocketed since the beginning of November. Traditionally, this has been the busiest period anyway, but with the closure of the non-essential stores it has become even busier.”
They can still handle it at PostNL, says Florentie. “At the beginning of the year, we make good agreements with the online stores about the volume that we must deliver. If that volume is exceeded, we look at how we can spread those parcels better or which parcels must be delivered first. Our depots have to be delivered every evening. are empty, otherwise we will not be able to process the parcels properly. A delay on the parcels does not have to be a problem, as long as the consumer is kept informed. “
How many parcels are we actually talking about? “During this busy end-of-year period, we deliver 1.5 million parcels daily in Belgium and the Netherlands. There is a lot of online shopping, especially during the weekend, so Mondays and Tuesdays are the busier days. We make a great effort to get everything processed. for example, additional people were hired. ” PostNL also expects that the growth they are now seeing will continue. “I don’t think we will return to pre-2020 levels.”
