Stadtwerke Offenbach wants to strengthen the double formation: Newspaper for the municipal economy

Applications are decreasing every year

The Stadtwerke Offenbach – in whose headquarters the results were presented – instead filled all the vacant training positions in this training year. “However, we clearly feel that it is becoming increasingly difficult to fill skilled trades,” said Gerlinde Klos, head of the Stadtwerke Human Resources Competence Center. “The number of applications is decreasing from year to year”.

“Unfortunately, there is not as much interest in dual training as would be desirable,” added Thomas Iser, CEO of the Offenbach Employment Agency. “We see it as our task to continue to convince young women and men of the many benefits of dual training.” Communication with parents is also important.

Additional training contracts

Hans-Joachim Giegerich, Vice President of IHK Offenbach am Main, explains that 1,452 training contracts were concluded with the IHK in this training year, as explained by Hans-Joachim Giegerich, Vice President of IHK Offenbach am Main. This corresponds to an increase of 17 percent. “This puts us above the ‘pre-crown level’.”

However, the shortage of skilled labor threatens the existence of companies. “The demographic evolution in the coming years will aggravate the situation. That is why IHK Offenbach am Main has continuously promoted dual training and offered professional guidance, even during the pandemic lockdown and even more after: for example through training ambassadors, with parents’ evenings, the night of training and of course during the training fair “.

decline of craftsmanship

Giegerich also saw politics as a duty. The industry representative expects her to do more for dual training: “Career guidance must become an integral part of specialist teaching. Vocational schools must be future-proof and digital.” More subsidized housing must also be offered for dual training, as has been the case for some time now for students.

Florian Schöll, managing director of vocational training at HWK Frankfurt-Rhein-Main, also reported that 3,343 training contracts were concluded in the chamber district for this training year. This corresponds to a slight decrease of -1.3 percent. “We need to clearly show young people the wide range of career opportunities in our companies,” stressed Schöll. “The career options are different, regardless of whether you remain an employee or become self-employed as a master craftsman.” (jk)
