The 974 stadium was in fact built as an additional stadium for the 2024 World Cup. This stadium was built with a 974 container arrangement, as part of Qatar’s spirit of efficiency in organizing the World Cup.
The 44,000-capacity stadium has finally become the stage for seven World Cup matches since it opened last November. Stadium 974 is the first World Cup stadium that can be completely demolished.
“The organizers have promised to disassemble it, pack it up, put it on a ship and reassemble it overseas,” wrote the Financial Times report on Tuesday (6/12).
Rumors circulated that the demolition of the stadium would take place somewhere in Africa, but recent reports suggest that the results of the demolition of the 974 stadium could end up in Uruguay.
The 974 Stadium was designed to address concerns that Qatar spent billions of dollars building the stadium, but it later fell into disrepair. However, Qatar’s development ensures that seats from dismantled stadiums will be donated to other countries developing football programmes.
“Qatar has pledged to give away around 170,000 seats after the final whistle,” the Financial Times report wrote.
Stadium 974 saw Brazil confirm their progress to the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup after winning a crushing 4-1 victory over South Korea in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup, on Tuesday (6/12) .
Brazil created four goals in the first round. Tite’s side put in a stunning performance in the first 45 minutes. Vinicius Jr., Neymar, Richarlison and Lucas Paqueta all took turns scoring against Korea. Korea finally scored a goal through Paik Seung Ho in the second half.
