Stade Toulousain vs. Colomiers: A Clash of Champions and Young Talents

the essentials Columérins and Toulousains meet again this Friday August 4 for a meeting which will allow the former to find collective landmarks and the latter to see the emergence of young talents capable of donning the “red and black” tunic.

To say that the season started early for Stade Toulousain is an understatement. Champion of France on June 17, Ugo Mola’s men are already ready for their first friendly. “Friendlies are coming very quickly this year, faster than usual”, pointed out Alban Placines in Olympic Midi.

It is on the one hand because they were the last to play, with this final won against Stade Rochelais (29-26). But also, because the Top 14 exercise begins two weeks earlier than the last, due to the World Cup and its kickoff on September 8.

In this regard, the “red and black” club has to deal with many absences, seventeen players, according to staff estimates, who are selected to play in the most prestigious competition. “We will do with a very rejuvenated group at the start of the season,” the manager announced at the Brennus shield celebrations. And indeed, the elements under 22 will be numerous for this start, since the Top 14 is entitled to three days before the break linked to the World Cup, and therefore necessarily for this opposition to Colomiers.

A nice nod to the rivalry of the youth categories

“All the young people have a lot of hope for the start of the season, testifies Max Auriac. It’s true that a lot of internationals are missing. So that’s where you have to win it . At every training session, and at the first friendlies. That’s how we will be part of the beginning of the adventure.”

The back, loaned last year to Colomiers, carried out the preparation with the Stadium: “It’s going well but it’s hard, there’s a lot of intensity. At least we’ll be well prepared!” The idea for him is to prove that his experience in the Toulouse suburbs has given him enough experience to wear the Toulouse jersey for these next three games. Before returning to Colomiers, where he was loaned out for one more season. It is therefore a very special encounter that presents itself to him.
“I’m so happy to play against my friends because I’ve really made friends. In one year, we’ve been through a lot. I’ll take advantage of seeing them again after the match, I’ll stay focused during the game,” smiles- he.

And contrary to the joke in which he himself participated – “I made some friends believe that I was going to do half-time on each side” – he will only play well with the Toulouse jersey this Friday evening! A nice nod to his current situation, but also to the many matches he played against Colomiers, from the youth sections.

“Need to work”

“In pro, the rivalry is less present because we are not in the same division, we know that they are at the level above. But at the school of rugby, it is very marked, testifies Jean Thomas, who has been playing for Colomiers since the age of 6. It’s because we play the same thing, and we are two very good training clubs. Also there is the rivalry of the neighbor, due to the history of the two clubs in particular.”

For the columérine team, the ambition will be to find the automatisms after having recorded many arrivals. “We need to work on our bearings, find a binder between us”, recalls head coach Julien Sarraute. The adversity of the champion of France will be a good revealer.
