Glass factory owner Jiří Kozel and metal workshop owner Pavel Vozandych are slowly cleaning up the aftermath of Sunday’s flash flood.
Both have their operations in the area of the former timber company, which was the most affected by the flash flood in Stache. The flooded Jáchymovský stream is adjacent to all the buildings. The water broke through the wall of one of the buildings and flooded CNC machines, furnaces and materials for production.
“I was rescued by the firemen when there were 120 centimeters of water in our glass factory,” he says on the web a glass factory that plans to sell off the salvaged glass, but at the same time is asking people for help.
The mayor of Stach, Petr Lampa, then estimates the damage to property: “If we take the damage to municipal and private property, the amount will certainly be in the millions of crowns.”

The Šumava municipality, home to approximately 1,200 inhabitants, manages a budget with revenues and expenses of around 40 million crowns.
According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, a total of over 80 millimeters of water probably fell in Stache on Sunday afternoon.
“The banks of the water course are damaged, the sewers somewhere, of course, flooded buildings and so on. We have to fix everything gradually,” says Lampa.
Although people in a number of homes had flooded basements, no one had to evacuate due to the effects of the storm. “We got up in the morning and got back to work and we are removing what the water caused,” concludes the mayor.
The Ministry for Regional Development points out that municipalities can get money for repairing damaged property or buying a new one. “The subsidy amount for one project is up to 20 million crowns, we doubled the total amount of money to 200 million and moved the deadline for submitting applications to September 2025,” adds Minister Ivan Bartoš from Pirátů.
