Rajab Shehata, Head of the Rice Division of the Grain Industry Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, confirmed that the decline in rice prices in local markets is due to the efforts of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, which has taken many steps to provide rice to citizens at reasonable prices.
Shehata explained that the most prominent of these steps is importing rice from abroad and contracting to purchase large quantities of Indian rice, to put it on the local markets at reduced prices.
He added that these measures contributed to increasing the supply of rice in the markets and reducing prices by a large percentage.
