For the big city project “Now”, actor Samuel Koch is returning to the Darmstadt State Theater as a guest. In the Corona year he was not able to play theater either, but he realized long-cherished projects.

Sactor, author, speaker and listener ”is his job title. Samuel Koch, who has been a permanent member of the Nationaltheater Mannheim since the 2018/19 season and previously at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, sounds relaxed. But he, too, has lost productions “for the well-known reasons”, he too – like many – rehearsed for eight weeks “to the great regret and on heap” without then experiencing a premiere. After all, he was able to “turn a little bit” in the Corona year 2020 – a leading role in the movie “I buy your fear”.

His next role: listener. That’s not so absurd for an actor, says Koch. Whether on stage or in training: “At least 50 percent are listening. You can see, not only in the film, whether someone really listens, empathizes – or whether they’re just waiting for their work. ”Koch now gets his work from the audience on two dates. “Through the evening with Samuel Koch” is the name of one of the formats within the framework of the “Now” project, with which the Staatstheater Darmstadt, directed by Christoph Frick, plays empty shops, squares and screens, rooms, the Internet and a mobile phone that is in the Acting company goes from hand to hand every day.
