Street artist Banksy has created a new work in the English seaside town of Margate. The graffiti depicts a woman with a battered face who is stylized as a 1950s housewife. Since Banksy created the work on St. Valentine’s Day, according to the media, he probably points to the problem of violence against women. The artist himself named it “Valentine’s Day Massacre” on his Instagram.

A gymnast, a boy beating a judoka and children on a ‘hedgehog’. Banksy created seven works in Ukraine

Banksy last drew more attention to himself in December, when he created and sold 50 screen prints. He plans to donate the proceeds to support Ukraine, which has been resisting the Russian invasion since last February. Banksy himself visited Ukraine in November and created seven anti-war works in the streets of bombed-out cities, such as Kyiv, Hostomelu and Boroďants.
Banksy’s real identity is unconfirmed. According to the British media, it is probably the now 49-year-old Robin Gunningham, whose face was first revealed by the tabloid The Mail on Sunday in 2008.
Banksy’s artistic roots probably go back to the underground scene of the 80s in Bristol, England. His works have appeared all over the world, but many of them are no longer on display, as they are ephemeral in nature. Today’s Valentine’s Day graffiti also includes a real freezer, a plastic chair and other small trash that anyone can take from the place on the street.
