The St.Gallen canton police draws a positive balance on Christmas Eve, as they write in a message. In comparison, the evening was calm and peaceful. Nevertheless, there were several missions. In a handful of cases, the police have had to go out over family disputes.
And there were two fires: In Nesslau, the caquelon for a fondue chinoise set off a kitchen fire. The fuel paste from the fondue accidentally ran into the drain of the sink and caught fire. 20 firefighters arrived – but were able to return to their Christmas parties after a short time. The family had already put out the fire themselves.
Christmas tree catches fire
A Christmas tree also caught fire in Bernhardzell. A man unceremoniously pushed him through the balcony door to the seat to prevent the flames from spreading to the house. However, the 67-year-old suffered a burn and had to be taken to hospital. Despite the courageous intervention, property damage of several 10,000 francs occurred to the house. 35 firefighters were on duty.
In addition to the fires, there were several break-ins and traffic accidents on Christmas Eve, writes the St.Gallen canton police. Around 4 a.m. on Christmas morning, a 30-year-old had an accident in the Balmenraintunnel on the A15 motorway and then put his car in an emergency tunnel niche. He was unable to drive and had to give a blood and urine sample.
