SSV leader Ulm walks away

A look at matchday 18: Steinbach has lost his feathers

In the Regionalliga Südwest, SSV Ulm 1846 football runs alone at the top of the table. On matchday 18 and thus at the start of the second half of the season, the former Bundesliga club held the upper hand in front of 2875 spectators in their home Donaustadion against second team 1. FSV Mainz 05 4:1 (2: 1) and continued to break away.

Two braces by Philipp Maier (10th/16th) and Bastian Allgeier (82nd/86th) were enough for the hosts to get their twelfth victory of the current season. On the Mainz side, David Mamutovic (35th) was only able to make it 1:2 from his team’s point of view. It is the fifth consecutive time that the hosts remain unbeaten (three wins and two draws). The guests from Mainz, on the other hand, went away empty-handed for the third time in a row and have been waiting for the trio for four games.

In the table, the SSV Ulm, coached by Thomas Wörle, extended the lead over their closest pursuers to seven points. This was also because the second-placed TSV Steinbach Haiger did not get more than 1-1 (1-1) in the game against the promoted SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz in front of 1080 spectators.

Mick Gudra (19th) meanwhile had given the hosts the lead. In the first round, however, SG Barockstadt was able to equalize the deficit with a goal from Moritz Reinhard (32nd). For Steinbach’s championship candidate Haiger it was already the third draw in a row.

Kickers Offenbach come on in the final round

Hope for first place keeps Kickers Offenbach alive. The former Bundesliga club won the traditional duel against promoted VfR Wormatia Worms 3-0 (0-0). The 5562 fans present at the Bieberer Berg stadium had to wait a long time before the first goal could be celebrated. Only in the final round did “Joker” Törles Knöll (78th) lead his team on the way to victory. A few minutes later, Jakob Lemmer (83rd) and Ronny Marcos (87th) further improved the result. It was the third consecutive victory for Offenbach. The gap to leaders SSV Ulm is still seven points.

FC Homburg remains in the lead

Fourth-placed FC 08 Homburg are the only team with a chance, at least in theory, of unseating the leaders from Ulm from first place this season. This is because FCH will join the second team at TSG Hoffenheim at the end of the year (Wednesday, December 14), so that the Saarlanders can close the gap to nine points from three games.

Thanks to a 2-0 (1-0) home win against Rot-Weiss Koblenz in the back, Homburg kept its theoretical chance of the unofficial “Winter Championship”. Fabian Eisele (23rd) paved the way for the hosts to win in the first round. Arman Ardestani (61st) brought the tenth victory of the season in dry cloths. The midfielder had been replaced a few seconds earlier and his goal made the difference. In the third game under the direction of new coach Adrian Alipour, the Koblenz team did not win a point or score an own goal.

Four penalties in Walldorf’s important home win

In a duel between two teams at risk of relegation, FC-Astoria Walldorf celebrated a treble against newly promoted SV Eintracht Trier. In the end it was 2:1 (2:0) for the hosts on the scoreboard. What is particularly curious is that all the goals have come from penalties. Right from the start, Niklas Antlitz (3rd) had the possible lead for Walldorf in place. With a penalty kick, however, the attacker only hit the post.

His teammate Marcel Carl (11th, hand penalty) did better a few minutes later. In the first round, Antlitz (45th, penalty kick) had another chance and was able to convert from the penalty spot on his second attempt. In the second half, the visitors from Trier were also awarded a penalty, which substitute Dominik Kinscher (50th) converted into the final score. While Walldorf has drifted away from the danger zone with seven points from his last three games, Eintracht, winless in nine games, have slipped to penultimate place in the table.

Bahlinger SC is back on track

There was a late win for Bahlinger SC. The team of BSC coach Axel Siefert prevailed against the second team of VfB Stuttgart 1:0 (0:0). The guests could especially thank Marco Bauer (71st), who scored his first goal of the season in his seventh appearance this season for the Southwest team. After just one point from their last five games, Bahlingen got back on the road to success and increased their distance from the danger zone. Stuttgart, on the other hand, went away empty-handed after four games without defeat (W2, D2).

FSV Frankfurt closes the Balingen series

TSG Balingen’s streak ended after five three-pointers in a row. FSV Frankfurt secured it, winning the away game at TSG 2-0 (0-0). For a long time, though, it looked like a goalless draw. Only in the final stages Giorgio Del Vecchio (81′) and Jake Hirst (86′) were available to the former second division club, thus completing their eighth victory of the season. In the table, the FSV expanded the cushion on possible relegation zones to ten points. TSG Balingen conceded for the first time in 562 minutes, more than nine hours.

VfR Aalen with third consecutive victory

The non-relegation places are within reach again for VfR Aalen. Although nine points were deprived of the former second division club due to insolvency proceedings, VfR is only one point behind after three consecutive victories. The Aaleners, coached by Tobias Cramer, won against the newly promoted SGV Freiberg in front of 1080 spectators 2:1 (1:1). The hosts’ goals came from Alessandro Abruscia (31′) and Sean-Andreas Seitz (83′). Adrien Koudelka (34th) was only able to equalize for Freiberg shortly after the first deficit. However, the guests were no longer able to avoid their eighth defeat of the current season.
