MORELIA, Mich., August 4, 2022.- Authorities from the Ministry of Health of Michoacán (SSM) ruled out that three fainting spells that occurred during the vaccination day for children between 12 and 17 years of age, in Morelia, were due to a side effect of the anti-Covid 19 vaccine.

“We are seeing that at these ages children are more vulnerable, that they do not eat any food and are fainting, but it has nothing to do with the secondary effects of the vaccine; it’s simply because they don’t eat breakfast,” commented Lexi Mejía Luna, general practitioner, responsible for the SSM vaccination day.

In an interview with Quadratín, the general practitioner ruled out the effects of the vaccine, explaining that fainting is generally caused by a drop in blood pressure after not having breakfast.

“An anaphylactic shock (related to a severe allergic reaction) can occur within a minute, but if it does not occur within the first or second minute, a side effect is ruled out. We have late side effects, and these fainting spells are not”, explained Mejía Luna.

He specified that there is a medical unit that immediately provides first aid, so when taking vital signs and carrying out the corresponding medical protocols, the diagnosis is low blood pressure due to not having eaten breakfast, added to the stress factor due to the uncertainty of the vaccine and the fear of needles.

“Three days into the vaccination process we have only had three patients with fainting, it is not very frequent; more or less between 12 and 15 years old”, commented the doctor, at the end of medical care for an adolescent who fainted at the Ciudad Universitaria headquarters, and who finally stood up apparently well.

This Thursday was the last day of vaccination in Morelia for adolescents between 12 and 17 years old; throughout the state, the Ministry of Health of Michoacán foresees the application of 336 thousand doses.
