SSD assures that oncological medicines are already arriving in Durango

The Durango Health Department (SSD) reported that the federal government has already sent oncological medicines to the state, coinciding with the protest carried out by Gomezpalatina women with breast cancer due to the shortage of high-cost medicines at the State Cancer Center (Cecan).

The state agency, headed by Moisés Nájera Torres, announced that the medicines arrived Palbociclib, zoledronic acid y Fulvestrant and that the Exemestano, will arrive between today and tomorrow; the latter is a treatment for postmenopausal women with advanced-stage breast cancer or early-stage estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer.

It was learned that with the change in the federal administration, not all drug codes are being released, so those drugs that do not reach Durango are managed through entities in the country or with the State’s own resources.

As you may recall, since the end of August this year, breast cancer patients have been protesting in Gómez Palacio to report that they had been without their medications for about three months and that due to their family’s economic situation it was impossible for them to acquire them on their own, especially because some of them cost between 20 and 80 thousand pesos.

“I don’t even have a single pill left.”

These women do not have social security, so they receive medical care from the Department of Health of Durango. The case of María Anavelina was presented, who, with great sacrifice, had to buy an injection of Fulvestrant, with a cost of 24 thousand 170.40 pesos.

On this day, state health authorities assured that they will contact patients to tell them the day and time when they can pick up their cancer medication.
