SSC Schwerin threatens out in the Champions League | NDR.de – Sport

Status: 03.02.2021 10:29 p.m.

The volleyball players from SSC Schwerin have to worry about making it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. In the second game of the second half of the group stage, the Bundesliga club lost to the Italian top team Scandicci in their own hall on Wednesday.

The Mecklenburg women need a clear success in the final encounter on Thursday (8 p.m.) against Busto Arsizio (Italy) in order to advance as one of the three second best points. In view of the corona pandemic, the Champions League group stage will be played in tournament mode this season. From the total of five relays of four, the first in the group and the three best second qualify for the quarter-finals.

Koslowski: “Scandicci cleared up today”

“It would have taken a mammoth performance today to beat this top team,” said SSC coach Felix Koslowski after the 3-0 (22:25, 13:25, 15:25) defeat. “Scandicci cleared up today. Stars of such caliber and with so much experience know exactly what to do next.”

The SSC was able to make the first and second rounds balanced at the beginning. But a short period of weakness after an 11: 9 lead in the first part of the game should cost the first set, while the Italians were superior to the Schwerin in the second set in almost all respects with increasing duration. In the third section, the guests benefited from a quick 5-0 lead and immediately used the first match point to achieve their deserved success.

“We tried to build up pressure on serve, try more and more, then mistakes come and then there is uncertainty and that is simply exploited by such stars,” said Koslowski.
