SSC alerts about apps that offer fake loans

Cyber Police warn that criminals take advantage of netizens’ financial need

In recent weeks and due to citizen complaints about malicious applications, the Cyber Police of Mexico City identified at least 80 apps that are not properly regulated by the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF) .

Given this, the police warn that criminals take advantage of the financial need of netizens, offering them in the applications false immediate loans and, later, alleged collection managers by not detecting the punctual payment, resort to violent methods by means of harassment, threat and extortion.

Likewise, the police elements identified other unusual situations, since they say, to install these applications, users give access to their contact list and image gallery, which they use if the person does not pay in a timely manner, and they receive a series of threats by phone or through WhatsApp messages; In some cases, the photos have been posted on social networks offering alleged sexual services or that the affected person is a fraudster.

Faced with citizen complaints, the SSC, through the Cyber Police, negotiated with the competent authority to terminate said applications with the information collected and the report of the complainants.
