Ssa; the curve went from 3.5% to 2.1% this week, highlights

MEXICO CITY.

The undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, affirmed yesterday that there is a slowdown in the covid-19 epidemic.

There is a very clear indicator of the slowdown of the epidemic that we can see through this percentage of change in cases that occur daily, “said the federal official, who today will present a more detailed report on the matter.

From Monday to Saturday, a slowdown in the epidemic curve was identified in the percentage of cases that occur, going from 3.5 to 2.1 percent, he said.

He explained that the percentages that were shown during the week were as follows: Monday, 3.5 percent; Tuesday, 3.5 percent; Wednesday, 4.1 percent; Thursday, 3 percent; Friday, 2.9 percent, and Saturday, 2.1 percent.

During the press conference that he gave in the National Palace on updating the pandemic data in the country, the Undersecretary of Health assured that thanks to the responsible action of the population and the measures implemented by the respective state governments, prevented the situation due to the health crisis in Mexico from being worse.

We recognize, from the federal government, that mitigation and hospital reconversion measures have allowed hospitals not to be exceeded in Mexico, as unfortunately it did in countries that had a very abrupt, very rapid epidemic.

In Mexico this situation did not occur, first, because we managed to mitigate, and as a consequence of the mitigation we had the appropriate time to expand hospital capacity, ”he assured.

The undersecretary of Health insisted that the epidemic in Mexico cannot be expected to end suddenly and reiterated that the health crisis is expected to reach the month of October, since progress will be by region.

Anyone who sees that the epidemic is going to end suddenly is not understanding the concept. We have said that it will end until October in some places, in some states, in some municipalities, it will end sooner. As we have said, in Jalisco and Nuevo León they will arrive until October, it will gradually decline, “he said.

In this sense, López-Gatell reiterated that it is essential that the population adhere to preventive health measures.

If people go out into the public space, but keep a healthy distance, wash their hands, do a sneeze, they don’t go out when they have symptoms, because they know they could be sick, etc., that reduces the proportion of people who in the Public spaces are contagious, “he said.

He stressed that those suffering from diabetes, hypertension, morbid obesity, among other diseases, as well as pregnant women, older adults and children under 12 years of age, should remain protected at home.
