Ssa announces vaccination against Covid-19 in minors between 15 and 17 years old without comorbidities

Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, reported that on Friday, November 19, the pre-registration will be opened to vaccinate adolescents between 15 and 17 years old without comorbidities against Covid-19.

In a press conference from the National Palace, the official explained on Tuesday that children under 15 years of age will not be vaccinated because according to the analysis, the mortality rate for this segment of the population is extremely low.

“This is mortality, between 10 and 14 years mortality is very low, after 15 years there is an increase in mortality, although it is still low. Mortality increases as age increases ”, stated López-Gatell.

The public servant said that special emphasis will be placed on the inoculation of pregnant adolescent women, since due to their condition they face greater risks of complications from coronavirus infection.

Similarly, the campaign to get vaccinated against influenza will be strengthened, he said. So far, only 10% of pregnant women in Mexico have agreed to apply the drug.

“What we see is that at different ages it increases in older people. There is a genuine concern about the risk to your little ones. Here we show mortality, in 2020 a little less than 9,500 people between 15 and 18 years old died, of which 249 died from Covid-19 ”.

López-Gatell reported that in week 46 of monitoring the pandemic in Mexico, there is a record of 16 weeks with a reduction in infections.

“Around 129 million doses have been applied and 84% of the population already has their complete scheme. In total, at least 165 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been received, ”he reported.

The vaccination plan, he said, will continue in the country to apply second doses to adults in 15 states of the country.

“(It is going to) Expand coverage in a dispersed population. We are going to arrive, we are reaching all corners of the country. Now, from mobile brigades at the welfare points of care, we are going to give vaccinations to all people, ”he said.
