Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian government is ready to make an energy transition to achieve its commitment to reduce domestic carbon emissions by 41% by 2030.
This was revealed by the Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati at the 2nd International Convention Indonesian Upstream Oil and Gas 2021, Tuesday (30/11/2021).
“So for Indonesia, designing the right energy transition will be very, very, very critical. On the one hand, how Indonesia can build and maintain and as a security. On the other hand, how Indonesia can fulfill and participate in global collective efforts to avoid disasters climate change,” he said.
To be able to make this energy transition, the government needs the right scheme. The preparation of this good scheme will be carried out together with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).
“In this context, the Minister of Finance is working with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, we are working on one of the schemes being discussed, namely the energy transition mechanism,” he said.
According to him, the scheme that will be drawn up is not only related to coal, but also other fossil fuels in the oil and gas sector.
“We hope that in this conference we can get a little bit from all stakeholders, especially the upstream oil and gas industry. How Indonesia, with our own oil and gas production potential that is still available, needs to be optimized. But on the other hand, how will we be able to design a credible and sustainable transition towards renewable energy,” he concluded.
