Sri Mulyani Calls Zambia’s Debt to Ethiopia It’s Unhealthy

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani reveal three countries with positions debt is unhealthy or unsustainable. The country is Chad, Zambiaand Ethiopia.

“Three countries are said to be in the negotiation process because of their unsustainable debt conditions,” Sri Mulyani said in an online press conference, Friday (18/2).

Sri Mulyani said the conditions of the three countries were discussed in the finance track discussion by the G20 countries. According to him, each creditor has its own mechanism in the debt payment process.

“There must be a lot of creditors from the G20 members and they have their own mechanism,” said Sri Mulyani.

He said the G20 forum was trying to bridge the debt problem in the three countries. However, Sri Mulyani did not explain in detail how to settle the debt payments of the three countries.

“The most important thing is that these countries need assistance, so we try to bridge the gap between countries that are creditors of the three countries,” said Sri Mulyani.

According to Sri Mulyani, low-income countries are indeed vulnerable to debt problems. This should be a concern in the G20 forum. “We see that with the pandemic and the condition of countries carrying out fiscal expansion, low-income countries are vulnerable, this may be a concern for the G20,” he concluded.
